OK, I think that by now we are all tired of hearing about “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.” But did you know that today is “Giving Tuesday?” Created by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation, the purpose is to remind people that the holidays are a time for giving, rather than taking, to encourage selfless acts, and to highlight worthy causes. Now THAT’S a special day I can get on board with! Giving doesn’t have to be a grand gesture or a huge monetary donation (although those are nice too). It is so easy to brighten a person’s day with a simple act of kindness, like offering to help somebody load their groceries in their car or letting somebody get into your lane in heavy traffic. How about paying for the car behind yours’ meal while in line at a fast food restaurant? How fun would that be?! And the best part about giving, is not only do you make somebody else feel good, but it will put a smile on your face as well.
And speaking of smiling faces, if you are looking for some quality family time and want to get in the spirit of the holidays, be sure to come out to Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley for the annual tree lighting ceremony this Saturday, December 7th, between 4:30PM-8:00PM. There will be food, games, crafts and even a snow making machine, so make sure your children (up to age 12) bring their mittens and jackets! The Girl Cave will have a booth there and we would love for you to drop by!
